So Sally Can Wait

Welcome to another ‘Artist’s Corner’. Yet again the inspiration for this week’s oeuvre comes courtesy of the Moodle Army Challenge from Haylee’s Aloada Bobbins.

This weeks challenge was to ‘Look Back’.

I’ve been feeling quite nostalgic lately, not least because of the recent ‘Stuff I used to do but don’t do any more’ series of posts that I’ve been writing. Clearly the blogosphere enjoys a bit of nostalgia too because parts 1 and 2 are currently the most popular posts I’ve ever written for this blog.

Anyway, enough self-congratulating, (although clearly part 3 has a lot to live up to…) the point is that I have been ‘looking back’ quite a lot recently.

Although, to be fair, I’ve always been someone who enjoys looking back on times gone by. I have many fond reminiscences of past events, even events that I know quite honestly I didn’t enjoy at the time they were happening to me.

I’m not deluded, I can quite clearly remember the sulky child that turned into the neurotic teenager that grew up into the angry twenty-something, but I’m ok with all of those  past versions of me, because they resulted in the reasonably content thirty-something that I currently am. (I’m not yet sure what kind of forty-something I’m going to be, but I’m angling for ‘mildly eccentric’…)

So I look back, even at less pleasurable memories, with a smile. Or certainly less bile than I felt at the time.

Music helps bring memories back and for me the nineties, though a decade I struggled to live through in many ways, is the decade that produced the music of my teenage years, the music which is the most effective at reviving the memories of days gone by.

And one of the songs that is the most evocative is a song which is aptly named for this theme – ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ by those Mancunian scallywags, the Gallagher brothers, otherwise known as Oasis.

It’s a great song albeit with some perplexingly inane lyrics.

And ‘not looking back in anger’ is a great way to live your life.

So that’s the title of this week’s Moodle.
