It’s the fourth day of April and that can only mean that in my quest to alphabetise the cartoon characters of my youth, we must have arrived at the letter ‘D’.
What’s that you say?
Isn’t the fourth of April also my birthday?
Well I wasn’t going to bring it up but now that you mention it, it is indeed my birthday today.
There’s no need to make a fuss. It’s just a day like any other. No, there’s no need to give me lots of really expensive presents.
Well, ok if you insist.
But there’s plenty of time for all of that. For now let us return to the matter at hand. And that matter is ‘D’
‘D’ is for Danger Mouse.
There were a lot of 1980s rodent heroes as I recall. The Rescue Rangers had a whole team of them, Basil was a Great Mouse Detective, Fievel had his fair share of adventures in An American Tail and if Speedy Gonzales and Mighty Mouse pre-date the 80s, then that’s the time period in which I discovered them so they absolutely still count.
The greatest of them all was, without a shadow of a doubt, Danger Mouse. Seriously, just listen to his theme tune – it literally opens with the line “He’s the greatest…”
I loved Danger Mouse as a kid. I love Danger Mouse now. I own a Danger Mouse t-shirt. I literally would be Danger Mouse if it were at all possible.
But, alas, when asked the question “are you a man or a mouse?” I reluctantly have to concede that I am a man.
And Danger Man just isn’t the same thing at all.

So far a day of cinema (which I’ve told you about in a comment on your blog) and walking out of a pub that was too posh for it’s own good and having a MaccyDs instead for my birthday lunch. Now I seem to be on my sofa, but who knows what the rest of the day will bring…
…probably more food if I’m honest…

Haha, I’ll assume the establishment was one of those places that has a similar calibre of burger to a Big Mac, except they serve it on a piece of slate from the local garden centre and everything is infused with something botanical and artisan.
I purposely asked for fish and chips for my birthday tea and requested to eat out of the paper so there was no washing up. Simplest is bestest!

It probably was, but we left when they told us we needed to have booked (on a Wednesday lunchtime) to sit in the nice seats but we could still order at the bar for the same price if we wanted to. I might need to get fish and chips for my tea now – is it bad to eat chips twice on the same day?

Hell no! I mean, probably, from a health point of view but all dietary consideration should be off the table when it’s your birthday.

Oh yes I loved DM (but they were my doc marten’s in my teens, baby bouncers they used to call the girl’s versions because we had to have the kids sizes it was so unfair and i’ve never found para boots my size at our anchor either!) Amyway, Penfold was my fave character in this one, by far. it was around mid 1990s I think when I first saw this one, on cable or mainstream telly, can’t quite remember but my little boy loved it too. Thank you for choosing this theme and I’m enjoying your sense of humour and the contextual information you impart too so much that I tried to pass you a virtual beer through my screen. Of course nothing works these days and yesterday’s electro-magnetic storm seems to have knocked out both my camera and my mobile phone, so being patient with audience numbers might be necessary. glad to have caught up for a chatter back and hope you don’t mind – of course you may delete my comment from display if you wish to do so. That’s all folks springs to mind. I’m showing my age again! Cheers! A happy day to you Sir and whenever your b-day, enjoy!

Danger Mouse, the great David Jason (Del Boy, Inspector Frost…) Its fitting because Mr Jason does have a mousey quality… and I mean that as a compliment.

Enjoying these posts a great deal since it’s kind of in my wheelhouse. Can’t wait for Q and X! (thinks: James will probably make up a cartoon character for those letters bc he thinks we are Philistines who have no appreciation for cartoons. Or to test our acumen! Rubs hands together and is repelled by the rasping sound. Borrows wife’s hand cream.)

I’ll concede that Q & X were difficult, but I managed it. They are quite tenuous, but they were characters in shows I watched so they totally count…
