You would rather be producing prose
That is not how blogging always goes
If you don’t have much time
And you know how to rhyme
Then claim you’re a poet and compose

High Brow Literature.
Should the scribe attempt waxing poetic
‘Tis difficult to remain the high-minded Romantic,
The aesthete does swiftly learn
How rapidly lofty ideals can turn
Into deep shit when writing the rude limerick.

Integrity is my middle name. My parents were cruel in that regard.

I watched that documentary about Rockfield Studios last night. That had ‘The Charlatans’ in it.
Sorry, that doesn’t have any relevance to poetry either.

But The Charlatans are a good band so it’s relevant to something.

I can’t stand limericks. You may have noticed!

I presumed as much. That can the only reason you insist on publishing them on Monday which is indisputably the worst day of the week.

One of the most liberating moments I’ve had is when I accepted that I didn’t have a novel in me. Of course, you would think that the hideous one I wrote years ago would have taught me that but I thought of that only as “my first” novel. So now, I do claim I’m a poet! 😊

You are a poet of some considerable talent. It would rather be breaking character for me to say the same about myself but I wouldn’t waste my time blogging if I didn’t actually like the majority my output. Having a natural tendency towards self deprecation can create a contradictory impression to how I actually see myself. Still think I’ve got a novel in me but possibly not one anyone would want to read.

Your voice is really engaging and humourous. What comes to mind when I think of “your novel” is “Angela’s Ashes” (wish I could italicize). I’m not thinking about the tragedy of the memoir, God forbid, but the voice is so engaging and humourous, you just want to read on. That’s what happens with your prose. And thank you, by the way.

The great thing about poetry is that it leaves more time for pie.

And there is never really enough time for pie

You can count on James for some poetry
That is done with some notoriety
Sometimes it’s a limerick
Or his Haiku trick
But it’s always -going to be something witty.
