“Oh no, has your welly come off? Well I’m driving at the moment but I’ll put it back on for you when I can stop.”

“I know sweetheart but I can’t stop the car at the moment.”

“I’m really sorry darling, but I can’t stop now.”

“I know! I can’t stop the f…ahem…it’s ok angel, we’re nearly home.”

“Ok, we’re home now. Here’s your welly.”

    Is a welly a boot? If so, why is it called a welly? Is that a family thing or a British one?

      British I think. Abbreviation of Wellington Boot. Named after the Duke of Wellington. But essentially waterproof rubber boots.

      The boot is worn on The Spaceship Enterprise-as it is made from vulcanised rubber. Wellingtons have a proud military history.
      That’s the logical answer to your question.
