Free Verse About Pandemics

It turns out
That pandemics are not just about
Highly infectious diseases

They are also about
Competency
Logistics
And cooperation
Either exemplary
Or a lack thereof

And they are about values
Sometimes shared
Often not

And about divisions in society
Some previously unseen
Others exacerbated

And as they go on
And on
And on
They become increasingly about
Patience
And tolerance
Holding on to them
As both become exhausted commodities

But as I reflect
On the trials and tribulations
Of this pandemic
I can console myself
With the knowledge
That it’s been a long time
Since I worried about toilet paper.

I improved my lifestyle once I stopped listening to government ministers’ pronouncements and acquired heard immunity.

I believe that may be the most effective form of immunity. But that could be hearsay. Or heresy. One of the two.

Thanks for reminding me. I’m off to the shops!

Just don’t buy more than you need to build a small toilet paper fortress and you should be fine.

Not wishing to start a panic or anything but, yesterday, I was in Lidl and they had no tissues, no toilet paper, and no kitchen rolls (Absolutely zero stock).

It’s ok, I’ve still got plenty in the Covid-shelter from 2020

This verse wasn’t exactly free. It costed about one pandemic.

I’ll concede it’s not tremendous value at that price

The pandemic has affected me to the point where I can drop something on the floor and it can send me off the deep end. Other than curtailing my get-togethers, I really haven’t “suffered” to any real extent, so if I’m feeling like this in a “best-case scenario”, I can’t imagine how people are feeling who have lost family members, their own good health, jobs, and who knows what else. This thing is a nightmare. (Just thought I’d vent a bit.)
