Hello readers of βJames Proclaimsβ, whoever and wherever you may be. If youβre tuning in on a Monday then youβre probably looking for my ‘hilarious’ regular feature βJames Complainsβ. But itβs not here. Instead thereβs this.
But what is βthisβ?
Well Iβve only gone and signed up for another of those blogging courses that WordPress runs from time to time. This oneβs called Writing 101.Β It lasts for four weeks. During that time Iβll be filling these pages with posts inspired by assignments from afore-mentioned course.
They may not all be worth reading, but Iβll do my best.
Todayβs assignment was to answer the question :
Why do you write?
I write because I enjoy it. Thatβs definitely the main reason.
I do have this outlandish notion that someone one day might pay me for being a writer. Perhaps that it might even make me wealthy. And I wouldnβt be against that at all.
But if it doesnβt happen Iβll probably still write.
I write because I enjoy the ego boost I get when someone tells me theyβve enjoyed what Iβve written. Itβs nice when someone recognises you for being good at something that you want to be good at. I need that kind of validation from time to time – I have a fragile self-esteem.
I canβt play a musical instrument (at least not in tune), Iβm not especially athletic, and aside from a few rudimentary cartoons, Iβm not at all able when it comes to the visual arts.
But sometimes IΒ write stuff that makes people laugh.
And that makes me happy in my own little way.

Lol at the part about the ego boost! You’ve gone right out and said it, were I didn’t mention it. But it’s so very true!

My pathological insecurity is a huge motivating factor for my writing too. It was either this or trying to pimp YouTube videos of my cat.

I can relate to all of your answers to that question. Which I am pretty sure is one of the reasons we are blogging friends π Keep writing! And I do hope you will share any nuggets of wisdom or information you get out of Writing 101. I’d love to take another WP class, but it’s not on the priority list right now. Which makes me sad. But I won’t let it get me down! π

Missing you in class but your blog doesn’t need the wisdom of ‘Writing 101’
