Hello and welcome to a very special Artist’s corner. As you will know if you read last week’s powerful and moving piece, I am no longer a contributor to this feature due to having been usurped by my two-year-old daughter. Although our collaborations over the last few weeks have achieved great acclaim, it has been obvious, for some time, that she is the true talent in our partnership and so I have taken the difficult decision to yield the stage to her.
Unfortunately, being a toddler, she is unable to share any real insight about her motivation for the following piece, but she can say her colours. And this one does contain a lot of blue. Although there are hints of some other colours. Which may be important.
I’ll leave it to the more erudite critics to assess the complex message behind the work in the comments section but for now just enjoy the beauty of ‘Mostly Blue’:

A lovely interpretation although the ‘sitting’ part of that renders it unlikely to be a self portrait because she hasn’t really mastered the art of sitting still yet…

Hmmmm… echoes of a Conservative Party logo…. I should nip that in the bud straight away. Mind you, she’s a two year old with talent and intelligence, so it’s a safe bet she’s just being playfully ironic as she’s already too well equipped to be thinking of joining them.

At the moment I think she’d be quite a good fit, because she has the world views of a 2-year old. But we’re hoping that in time she will grow out of that. Alas, much of the current government never quite managed to get past this developmental stage. I bet they do some lovely drawings though.

Don’t take on so, become her manager/Art director. Plus, if a blue period was good enough for Picasso, its good enough for pre-school Proclaims.

There is such freedom in this work! One instinctively feels the artist’s jubilation in her release from the shackles of collaboration, collaboration which was clearly holding her back from achieving her full potential. I am almost fearful of discovering where this journey will now take her, yet it is a fear founded, perhaps, on no more than society’s traditional fear of any individual breaking the chains of convention and journeying to the Utopian destination that is the birthright of every brave soul. A fear that thrills! This critic, certainly, can hardly wait for more!

I think Little Proclaims is suggesting that Numpty Trumpty is the right age for a blue rinse, with some nice red and green hair clips for decoration.

And if I remember correctly from that course I took on Colour Theory at uni, blue and orange are complementary colours, so I think it would work…

It’s clear from the artist’s use of melancholy blue shades she is bereft at the dissolution of the partnership with the author. The slashing brush strokes silently scream her pain.

The true artist does not require words to convey the true depths of her feelings and emotions. I am struck this piece of art and how, even at a young age, Ms. Proclaims is able to convey the depth of uncertainty which faces the future of human existence. I am reminded of the old rhyme:
Red at night
Sailors delight
Red sky at morning
Sailors take warning
As we observe this picture we see, for the most part, a sea of blue. On the lower lefthand corner, the last thing which our eye rests upon, we see a glimmer of red begin to creep into the picture. Let this be a warning as we sail towards the dawn.
The artist has spoken, and the dawn is red.

Obviously she is in her blue period. Yet she shows dynamic boldness with the sudden shock of red implying a desire for more, but she also hides the green lines showing a sensitivity above and beyond existential line one of menial sight. Or else it could just be scribbles

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned the house – and what about the man standing by the chimney on the roof? Yes, the house is blue, and yes, the shirt is red – but what do you think the house, and more importantly, the man standing on the roof says about Little’s mindset at this point?I’m always surprised when people dismiss the dominant elements in a piece of art. They are the most important aspects of a piece. 😊
