As I get older
I’m not sure I get wiser
But sometimes my perspective can shift
And views I once held
Now seem as alien to me
As an actual alien might seem
If aliens existed
And I were to meet one of them
My perspective on Christmas
Has certainly changed
Many times over the years
As a child
I always thought it was about
The aquisition of toys
Though as time passed
I began to believe
It was about drinking and eating to excess
In more recent years
I’ve associated Christmas
With family and friends
And just being a bit nicer to people
But as I sit here
Watching my daughter
Singing Christmas songs
And occasionally smiling at me contentedly
As she plays with her Christmas gifts
I have come to realise
That Christmas truly is
About the aquisition of toys
And it has nothing whatsoever
To do with aliens
Unless they are toy aliens
