About A Blog

James Proclaims (4)

It’s week two of Blogging 101 and I have that ‘Monday Morning’ feeling, which is ironic for three reasons. One is that I’m posting this on Monday evening,  two,  I have vaguely disputed the notion of the ‘Monday Morning’ feeling, on a post that I wrote back when no-one was reading this blog, and three I actually wrote most of this on Saturday, because I second-guessed what today’s task would be, based on previous incarnations of this course. Obviously I’ve edited it a bit since (or have I?).

Anyway today’s task is this:

Create and publish your About page, then either adapt it into a widget on your home page or add it to your menu.
It seems the further I progress on this course, the more alienating to ‘non-bloggers’ these tasks become. Still it isn’t obligatory to write about every single task, – indeed the course specifically advises you not to. I’m just doing it to be facetious, so if I’m putting off potential readers in their droves, I’ve really only got myself to blame…

I already have an ‘About’ Page and I’ve had some quite nice feedback about it. I’m not going to change it at all for the moment, particularly because I’ve already signed up for ‘Blogging 201’ in July and I’m fairly certain that I’ll only end up having to do it again then.

“But James” I hear you cry, “Why would you sign up for ‘Blogging 201’, when it’s abundantly clear that you’re not taking ‘Blogging 101’ seriously?”

Well it’ll give me something to do won’t it?

It’s not as though constantly blogging about blogging (or indeed at times blogging about blogging about blogging) has particularly affected the quality of  my output. Have a look back through some of the stuff I was writing before this course began. It hasn’t got worse since then has it?

But back to today’s task, and I’m basically not doing it for the reasons I’ve already mentioned.

I did have a go at the widget. Oh, if you don’t know what a widget is, it’s a bit like a doodah.  Or a thingamabob.

Anyway feel free to comment below.

Or not – there really isn’t much to say is there?

I’ve reached the same task and I’m looking for inspiration from you to bring myself and do it. I also feel that it’s alienating us from writing about something more meaningful than about pages, widgets and menus… I hope this week has something better to offer.

I don’t think it gets much better to be honest. But I think you’ve handled today’s task with aplomb…

I think it is great to sign up for 201. You can always repeat any class to pick up anything you missed the first time. lily

Blogging 201? I didn’t know one existed. If I don’t flunk out (ha!) of 101 maybe I will have to check it out.

I feel similar to you about my About page. About my About? That must definitely be confusing for non-bloggers. I am still trying to tweak my About a little for the short-term, and plan to work on it more down the road. We’ll see… I am not getting very much done today.

Hmm, who can I blame other than myself for all of this?

Blame ‘the system’. I always do. But we’ll get through this together and then onto blogging 201 and blogging greatness!

Hey at least you guys are in the class and chatting and exchanging blogs, I can’t even get into the Commons, my decoder ring got lost in the mail. When they finally let me in I’m going to be like the home school kid with the weird religious mother, or the kid who transfers in because the gymnasium at her old school burned down, but with out the redeeming secret identity or telekinetic powers.
Thankfully this week so far is stuff I can quietly do without having to mention it! 🙂

It’s alright, you can hang out with me. I’m a bad influence though…

I cannot believe that I liked this post because of the word “thingamabob” at the end. Are we thinking of the same thing when we hear that word?

I know what you’re thinking. I assure you my intentions were entirely innocent…

How many thingamabobs do you have then? (Hang on, are we on the same frequency? I’m kinda afraid we aren’t and you’d interpret this in a weird manner.)

I don’t know how to interpret it so I’m going to smile politely and say nothing…

Well, if you’ve got twenty then we’re on the same page… Okay this is bad. People do not get my song references.

Now we’re on the same page… Yes we mean exactly the same thing!

I’m here, reading up on the 101 to refresh my memory as I’m sure I was kicked out of class last year. I was out of coms, so very interested to see the topics again as I didn’t make the notch this year… probably best as I’m now in class 202 and it’s probably where I’m meant to be… except… I still haven’t published my about me correctly… I wrote it freestyle and left it as that 😦 probably for the best of my blog stats 🙂 I’ve enjoyed catching up with your blog. Thanks for that

Got a feeling that redoing the about page is one of the tasks coming up in 201 anyway…
