Could this be another new feature on James Proclaims? A feature where I regularly review stuff that you may, but probably won’t, find useful?

Only time will tell.

Today I’m reviewing something that I got given as a Secret Santa gift in December 2013. I am reviewing these drumstick pencils.

Now I’m no drummer. And I’m no artist.

But thanks to these drumstick pencils I can pretend to be both. Not at the same time though obviously.

As pencils, they’re perfectly functional, and anything you can do with a normal pencil, you can do with one of these pencils. And there’s two of them, so if using a pencil is your thing, then drumstick pencils will give you hours of fun. But if you do use them as pencils, then one day you will, through constant use, no longer have them any more, because that is what happens with pencils when you use them a lot.

If you choose instead to use them as drumsticks then they’ll last a lot longer.

I predominantly use mine in this capacity.

Certainly if I have no other writing instrument to hand, I will occasionally use one, to scrawl down some information, if I’m in a hurry. But mostly I try to use non-drumstick writing implements for that.

No, I like to drum with my drumstick pencils. I don’t have a drum kit, but I find that doesn’t overly prohibit me. I’m not drumming for an audience after all, although occasionally my other half does poke a curious head around the door to see what all the noise is.

I drum coffee mugs and my desk and books and sometimes bits of me, like my thighs or my stomach. It’s quite therapeutic.

So in summary drumstick pencils are good, but they’re not as multi-functional as you might first believe. You really need to pick a function and commit to it.

Nonetheless I give them four stars or a smiley face or a thumbs-up.

To be honest I haven’t really decided on the rating system that James Reviews is going to employ.

  1. I wonder, if you flip them in the air – are you flipping drumsticks like a rockstar or pencils like an artist?

    1. That’s the brilliant thing about them – it’s entirely up to you…

  2. Have you ever tried drumming with one and writing with the other one in your non-dominate hand at the same time?

That’s the route I am considering if anyone ever gifts me drumstick pencils.

    Whew, I feel prepared now.
