Day 2 of Writing 101 and today’s assignment is to write a list.
I was going to come up with a list of my favourite lists, but it turns out there aren’t that many lists in my life of importance. My weekly shopping list helps to keep Mrs Proclaims and I well stocked with household goods but makes less than exciting reading.
But I don’t want to miss an assignment, so a list is required.
Therefore, bereft of both ‘raindrops on roses’ and indeed ‘ whiskers on kittens’, here are a few of my favourite things…
![]() | Favourite film – The Empire Strikes Back (Raiders of the Lost Ark would also be in with a shout but Empire wins because it’s also the best Star Wars film and Star Wars beats Indiana Jones by the slimmest of margins in my book). |
![]() | Favourite film that isn’t part of an awesome franchise like Star Wars or Indiana Jones – The Princess Bride. |
![]() | Favourite novel – Jonathan Stange and Mr Norrel by Sussana Clarke (honourable mention to the recent BBC TV series, which was very good but the book is still better) |
![]() | Favourite French Film (because they’re different to other films) – L’Auberge Espagnole |
![]() | Favourite TV Show – Blackadder |
![]() | Favourite album – Definitely Maybe (Oasis) |
![]() | Favourite Sports team – The Welsh Rugby Team (the only team that can make me shout at the TV when I’m in a room on my own) |
![]() | Favourite Food to have for a main meal – I like most food. But you can’t go wrong with lasagne. |
![]() | Favourite Dessert – Ice-cream (any flavour – I love ice-cream) |
![]() | Favourite Drink – Good coffee is the best, but bad coffee is the worst. |
The above list is subject to change at a moment’s notice according to the mood I’m in on any given day.
But my love of ice cream is eternal.
Mine too – especially fruit flavoured ones 🙂

I am a firm believer that ice cream is the ultimate cure-all.

Blackadder. Is that Hugh Laurie with Rowan Atkinson? How on Earth did I not know of its existence?!
Please accept my gratitude. It’s from my best reserve.

My favourite film used to be Shakespeare in Love but now its The Libertine and is probably Johnny Depp’s best role. I never signed in for this part of the course thinking I’d do it later. Why do I love the Libertine? Basically it is debauchery but it happened and it shows the gap between rich and poor which has not changed. Yes ok it is very bawdy but so what?
As for book not sure but reading a brilliant one at present, Killer Elite by Ranulph Fiennes and it is another one which could well be true. Got the book as I’d seen the film with Jason Statham Clive Owen and Robert de Niro on youtube. Naturally the book is by far the best and I have to go back and check bits out, it is very comprehensive.

Never seen The Libertine but I will keep an eye out for it. I do like Shakespeare in Love.

I keep seeing “Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell” in book shops, but I never end up buying it. I’ll have to pick it up next time I’m book shopping!

I’d say you won’t regret it but I’m certain it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I didn’t regret it though…

Well, it’s good that I like a variety of tea 😉

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

We have an affinity for the Welsh Rugby Team too. The Boffin’s grandfather nearly made the squad, but an injury ended his career. He used to yell at the TV too by saying things like, “I told you not to do that!” It would actually be true because he knew the players personally.

I can’t claim that. Well not in quite the same way. I did once end up in the same swimming pool as the entire Welsh squad once. They were training in the same facility as I was swimming and came in to cool down. I felt more than a little intimidated. But weirdly one of the players at the time was an old school friend of mine and came over for a chat which made the whole thing a touch more surreal.

That counts. An old school chum being on the team certainly adds to the connection.

I think anyone who grows up Wales will know at least one person who made the national team. It’s that kind of place…

I love a good list! And ice cream.

Y’know, I once owned a book composed solely of funny shopping lists. I’ve no clue whatever happened to it, come to think of it. Good book, though.

I think I’d enjoy that book

Well, I at least found the title. It’s MILK EGGS VODKA; GROCERY LISTS LOST AND FOUND. Author is Bill Keaggy if you’re interested. Personally I’d recommend a used copy.

I’ll look it up 🙂
