Oh deadline,
I remember when you were just a speck
In the professor’s eye
No more threatening
Than an ant
And look at you now
All grown up
And looming large over me
A vicious unrelenting bully
Yes I’ve ignored you
In recent weeks
And perhaps you have every right
To feel aggrieved
But quite frankly
You’re just being mean
Insisting that I complete this work
And submit it by tomorrow
At 9am
But I’ll rise above this
And meet your demands
But when I don’t get the grade
That everyone knows I’m capable of
I’ll just have to let them know
That it wasn’t my fault
My deadline was unreasonable
And they’ll all hate you too.
I can’t stand deadlines like that. I once had one quarter to complete a 5-8 page paper on addiction – any kind of addiction. Like an idiot, I chose to write a PSA/research paper on an addiction I was suffering from. I say ‘like an idiot’ because I picked a topic I actually cared about. I never finished that paper because writing it would make me too depressed to function.
Well. That got very dark very quickly.
Great poem!

Fortunately I have less than no interest in the topic I’m currently failing to write about so I will finish on schedule even if it is the early hours of the morning. It will be an uninspiring piece of writing that will not doubt satisfy the less than inspiring individual who set the task. If I have time to proof read it I might even do quite well.
But I am bored…

Exactly. If it was a topic I hadn’t cared about, it would have been freaking perfect. Ah well.
I believe in you!
