A Is For April

I always enjoy a good ‘blogging’ challenge and apparently April is the month of the A-Z blogging challenge.

The goal, in so far as I can make out, is to write 26 posts in 30 days using the letters of the alphabet consecutively to inspire each post.

Today is day one of the challenge and thus if I’m not mistaken, A is the letter du jour.

Obviously lots of word begin with an ‘A’ so which to choose?

I’ve chosen the month in which the challenge takes place.

April.

That begins with an ‘A’

I like April.

It is my favourite month.

It’s partly my favourite month because it’s the month in which  I was born.

That’s a good reason to like it.

I also like it because it begins with arguably the most preposterous ‘day’ on the calendar.

Who doesn’t enjoy a good April Fool’s Joke? I’m pretty certain I would, if I’d ever come across one.

April is also the month that Mrs Proclaims first agreed to go on a a date with me. Three years to the day after that first date, April was also the month she agreed to become Mrs Proclaims. At least I think she did – I proposed and her immediate response was to tell me that she felt sick. She claims the sickness was as a result of happiness rather than revulsion at the notion of becoming my wife. I’m inclined to believe her because she actually did then marry me (not in April but in August, a month which also begins with an ‘A’).

April is also around the time that my mood starts improving in general. Christmas aside, winter is a bit rubbish and April does tend to coincide with a slight upturn in the weather in this country. I’m wearing shorts as I write this and while that’s notionally related to some exercise that I keep telling myself I’m going to do, it doesn’t feel wholly inappropriate to be wearing shorts just for the sake of it.

I’m also vaguely intent on having a bit of a ‘spring clean’ later, whereas for the whole of winter I was perfectly content to live in squalor.

So that’s ‘A’ done then.

‘A’ is for April.

I like April.

Tune in tomorrow to see how I tackle the beguiling challenge that is presented by the letter ‘B’.

Yes, winter is quite a dreary time. April is one of my favorite months as well.

Hi James, I found your blog through the A to Z Challenge. This is my third or fourth year. April is fairly fun, I must admit – even though we have zero family occasions in the month. So we probably hibernate most of April because in May we have six between birthday and anniversaries and Mother’s Day. Here in Kentucky the winters are cold, but we rarely get snow. We do get a lot of ice, which is particularly bad when you consider that whoever designed the roads must have been drunk at the time because if there is a single mile stretch of road in the whole state that is perfectly strait and level for more than a mile, it would be a miracle.

Happy upcoming Anniversary to you and your wife!

Glad you popped by. Only made it to A so far but working on B right now. April is hectic for me and mine in terms of occasions but May is no less so. We do get to ‘hibernate’ in June though…
