Sometimes when I am ill
I opt to take a pill
To alleviate my suffering
But I try not to read
Or indeed pay any heed
To the label on the packet or the tub
It’s not that I don’t care
Or that I’m unaware
That I should know the dangers of the drugs
But often I am vexed
To find within the text
A lengthy list of common side-effects
That only can confuse
And how am I to choose
Whether to stick or twist with my plight
The reaction could be worse
But I am not a nurse
So I don’t really understand the risks
It’s just better not to know
Instead go with the flow
And hope the good it does outweighs the harm
And I don’t know about you
But I find it’s rarely true
That a spoon full of sugar really helps
Ah yes shades of Mary Poppins there!!
