1998’s The Waterboy is the kind of juvenile comedy you tend to associate with Adam Sandler. Which is maybe unfair to Adam Sandler because he has, in his time, been in some good films. But he’s also done a lot of this kind of thing.
When The Waterboy came out I would’ve been 19. I quite liked this kind of thing when I was 19.
I don’t hate it now.
But it’s all pretty stupid and objectively it’s not really very good.
Weirdly, though, Kathy Bates is in it.
Make of that what you will.
Score for Christmasishness

I didn’t remember this movie as being at all Christmas(ish) but somehow during the timeline of the film it’s suddenly New Year’s Eve. Almost without warning. So one would imagine that at least some of the movie is set around Christmas. Then again, not much makes a lot of sense in this film so it’s also reasonable to conclude that it really isn’t very Christmas(ish). It’s up for debate, but, frankly, it’s not really a debate worth having.
There is an element of misery about this choice that detracts from any Christmasyishness.
It’s that you need to de-Bate.

I’m not sure that de-Bating the movie would help at all

It’s like a chapter of Forest Gump, dumbed down. The only thing that lasted longer than the movies ‘reputation’ was the short live catch phrase ‘you can do it’, as I recall.j

That catchphrase did enjoy a life of its own for a year or so. Happy days.
