Doing Precisely What We’ve Done 18 Times Before Is Exactly The Last Thing They’ll Expect Us To Do This Time

James Proclaims (4)

As I write this it is Monday morning, and we’ve yet to formally hear any details of Boris Johnson’s ‘roadmap’ to lifting lockdown. He’s going to speak later. But details have been leaked. And those details look suspiciously like the ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown 1.

Is it unfair of me to compare our very real prime minister with the fictitious (though horrifyingly plausible) portrayal of an incompetent World War 1 general, by Stephen Fry in the peerless sitcom Blackadder Goes Forth?

Possibly.

Maybe Boris will astound us all this afternoon.

But I’m confident enough that he won’t to schedule this post for tomorrow morning even though I’ve yet to hear him speak.

A combination of vaccines and improving weather may well see the latest government strategy be more successful than the way they prepared us for the winter months (because who could possibly have predicted that a virus that thrives in cold weather would get worse in winter?), but if it is, I still think it will be far more down to luck than any kind of judgment.

I’m still not going to book my summer holiday just yet if it’s all the same to Boris.

How come he always strikes me as a double negative? Must just be me?

I have May 17th pencilled in for Lockdown 4. Which is a shame as bookings for summer weeks in my holiday properties flooded in last night for some reason.

That is an unexpected turn of events. Who’d have though that publishing a list of optimistic but unguaranteeable dates would have that impact on holiday bookings?

We still are too, but the plan does look like it will set us all free to infect each other soon.

To be fair, I’m kind of a fan of Boris’s haircut.

It’s very much the look of the day. I have a similar style myself.

A plump breasted pigeon called Speckled Jim will be taking on the role of head of communications so that we get the messaging right this time. How’s that for cronyism!

They are really pushing the vaccine here in the US. I had an appointment than was canceled due to bad weather. Now it will be the last of March before I can get in. They keep pushing people that do not want the vaccine to get it, but don’t have enough appointments for those that do. And now it may be the end of the year before things are close to normal. They keep pushing it back.
