Occasionally I like to put together a ‘Found Poem’ based on things that other people have written or said. In this case it was something I heard while waiting to join quite an important meeting that I was dreading. It turned out not to be as bad as I feared it would but in those moments before it began, I was genuinely quite tense. It didn’t then help that technical difficulties delayed the start and I was stuck in a virtual waiting room listening to the same message being played over and over again. Perhaps I did lose the plot a little, because I began to find the repeating message strangely poetic. So I wrote it down and I would like to present it here as a found poem:
Virtual Purgatory
Waiting for the conference host to join. If you are the conference host please enter the conference pin number now.
(Long Pause)
Waiting for the conference host to join. If you are the conference host please enter the conference pin number now.
(Long Pause)
Waiting for the conference host to join. If you are the conference host please enter the conference pin number now.
(Long Pause)
Waiting for the conference host to join. If you are the conference host please enter the conference pin number now.
(Long Pause)
Waiting for the conference host to join. If you are the conference host please enter the conference pin number now.
Reading this poem was truly a moment of wonder.

As in “I wonder why he posted this”?

They could spice up the message a little – Waiting for conference host to be released on bail. Waiting for conference host to be resuscitated. ..

The time wasted was still real but I did only have to dress smartly from the waist up.

To be fair a substantial part of my ‘readership’ are algorithms so I’m loath to knock them
