Happy Easter everyone!
Also Happy Birthday, if it is also your birthday. It is my birthday. So Happy Birthday to me!
Having a birthday which falls on Easter Sunday is not like having a birthday which falls on Christmas. Mainly because it doesn’t happen every year, but also because people don’t conflate Easter eggs and birthday presents. I have plenty of both today and I’m far too old to have as many of either as I seem to have ended up with.
As it happens, quite a popular gift choice for me is beer and chocolate. I like both of these things and it seems that everyone knows I like both of these things because I now have an awful lot of them. I also have Easter eggs in abundance. I’m not sure I’m going to be making too many healthy choices for the next few weeks. But it’s ok, because I rarely make healthy choices anyway.
I did go for a swim first thing, which is quite a healthy thing to do. I’m a member of a facility which has an outdoor pool and outdoor swimming is once again permitted in the UK. So really, I deserve to eat, drink and be merry for the rest of the day.
Little Proclaims also participated in an outdoor recreational activity, because I took her to something called Rugby Tots, which is pretty much as it sounds. I say participated, but Little Proclaims thought I was taking her to the swings, and was most disconcerted when I took her to the same park but stopped short of going to the swings. So she spent most of Rugby Tots crying loudly and not participating. She was the only child who chose to do this, all of the others gleefully joined in what looked like genuine rugby-themed toddler fun, but Little Proclaims was having none of it. Up until about ten minutes from the end when she suddenly had a change of heart and entered the melee as if the previous 20 minutes of solid unabating tantrum had all been a dream. We’re going back next week, because I’ve already paid for eight sessions, but hopefully the denouement of this morning’s session is an encouraging portent for what is to come.
Anyway, it’s fair to say that Little Proclaims and I have earned our chocolate. And I’m certain we shall both enjoy it.
A little bird told me it was your birthday today. I don’t know why it bothered really, seeing as you just posted about it. It should have been concentrating on laying rabbits. Or something. I get so confused with it all.
Anyway, Happy Birthday.

I remember when my dad gave me ‘the talk’ about the birds and the rabbits. I’m having that little bird in a curry for my birthday meal.

Happy Birthday to you. I like how Little Proclaims does things. Make your feelings clear while keeping your options open should you change your mind. Very sensible.

She is never less than 100% committed to whatever position suits her at the time.

Happy birthday and Easter to a dad who has a fickle toddler. PS all toddlers are fickle. ❤️🐰😉🤷♀️🎁🎂🎈

I hear that other toddlers are challenging but mine seems to choose to be difficult when all the others are not.

I bet you drove past the swings several times before dumping Miss Proclaims in the hands of those torturing bestial Rugby totters! Still, that is of no concern, so long as you received lots of lovely chocolate and well wishing cards for your day of celebration. Happy Birthday, and Happy Easter.

There was more than enough chocolate to placate me and the little one thankfully

Well, a chocolate and beer flavoured and infused birthday to you. And, up until this year, tears at the Rugby would not have been an odd occurrence at the Proclaims home ground though?

It’s true – I’ve cried at my fair share of rugby games

Happy Birthday! I’ve been a rugby tots parent. The clubs get easier at they get older.

It was only her first session so I am hopeful it’ll get better.

I won’t wish you a happy birthday because it’s clear you’ve already gone and had one.
