The plot of 2017 drama ‘The Wife’ does rather hinge on a twist, and it is quite a predictable twist. But just because you can spot the revelation long before it’s revealed, does not make the journey any less enjoyable.
Glenn Close gives an understated but brilliant performance as the titular character, while Jonathan Pryce ably supports as her apparently conceited husband.
‘The Wife’ could easily have been a slow moving ponderous affair, but it is, instead, a compelling and well-paced 92 minutes that is both moving and darkly funny in equal measure.
Score for Christmasishness

The majority of the movie takes place in Stockholm in December. It’s not clear how far out we are from Christmas Day, but there are plenty of Christmas trees and garlands in the background all of which give the movie a festive feel. And although we don’t see it, there are suggestions that it’s snowing outside much of the time. All in all it is pretty Christmas(ish).
