I’ve not been here for a while. I haven’t forgotten my little blog, although I have been inconsistent at updating it for a few years now. I do pop in occasionally and have a little flurry of activity and then I disappear because life with two small children and a full-time teaching job can leave very little time for me and my thoughts. Mainly during the rare times I find anything resembling downtime I try and watch a movie or a boxset. And generally fall asleep on the sofa in front of said movie or boxset.
In the last few weeks, though, I have rediscovered something of the creative spark that I (perhaps mistakenly) believe I have. Rather than focus that spark here, as would normally be my default position, I decided to try something different.
My friend Ben and I made a podcast. Which is perhaps more a sign of our shared mid-life crisis than anything else. We had quite a lot of fun making it. It’s notionally about UK secondary education because that’s the sector we both work in. But it’s really us just trying to be funny.
We’ve recorded quite a few episodes. We’ve listened back to them and we don’t hate them. In fact we quite like them.
Episodes 1-3 launch in a few hours. Technically tomorrow where I am, but perhaps today where you are.
The episodes are available in all the places one might expect to find a podcast.
If you’re interested in that kind of thing then the link to Ben and James Could Do Better is this – https://benandjamescoulddobetter.buzzsprout.com
And below is the trailer:
If none of this interests you then my apologies for wasting your time.
Normal James Proclaims service will resume soon.
And if that doesn’t interest you, then you’re almost certainly reading the wrong blog.

So I went and listened to the first episode and liked it. You two seem to have a good chemistry and there sounds like the potential for some fun. I’ll probably wind up having to look up some information about how your system works compared to ours here, but really, I think that kids are kids and teachers all have some things in common.

Thanks for listening. I think you are officially our first listener. I don’t think knowing our system is a prerequisite. We mostly don’t understand it and we work in it!
