I'm feeling pretty blue
Though I'm looking fairly red
I'm not sleeping well
But I want to stay in bed

I think I've caught a cold
Though trying I was not
And anyway it's summer
So I'm feeling really hot

I'm not the life and soul
I don't wish to be a bore
But my repartee is feeble
Because my throat is very sore

As for oxygen
I'm somewhat understocked
The passage through my nose
Is well and truly blocked

There are no storms forecast
But there's one inside my head
And it's raging all day long
And filling me with dread

Outside the climate's fine
The sun is shining bright
But as regards the weather
To be under is my plight.

  1. James, this is brilliant. Because everyone knows that feeling. The sun is shining. It’s summer. You’re supposed to be happy and energetic. But instead you’re stuck inside your own storm.

And you nailed it. The sun doesn’t care that your nose is blocked. The heat doesn’t help when your head is already full of static. Everyone else is out there living and you’re just trying to breathe.

“To be under is my plight.” That line says everything. Not even sick. Just under. In that space where nothing makes sense because the world outside says one thing and your body says something else entirely.

Hope you feel better soon. 💙
