Children's playroom with toys, books, colorful decorations, and a train set on a rug
My children's toys are each
A precious memory
Of magical times spent
Imaginatively

They all have been well-loved
Some a little too much
A few have endured well
The enthusiastic touch

Of toddlers excited
By possibilities
(Not manufacturer
Endorsed activities)

As warranties expire
So too does the toy's time
For toddlers grow and change
And the toy's caked in grime

And one toddler's treasure
Repaired with superglue
Is ignored by others
Who prefer their toys new

Charity shops say no
So it's off to the tip
The graveyard of old dolls
Of this plastic spaceship

We cannot keep them all
They can't stay in this place
As sad as it makes us
We haven't got the space

So we mourn the old toys
But our kids don't much care
They enjoyed the toys once
I suppose that is fair

But the kids have moved on
And they want something new
And ideally not one thing
They would like quite a few
