This week’s Throwback Thursday post is a short one, but of some small significance to me. Partly because I really did enjoy the Narnia books when I was a kid and this year I’ve revisited them because Little Proclaims has been powering through them and I thought it’d be fun to read along. Or in truth just after her, because we’ve only got one copy of each book at Proclaims Towers, so we can’t actually read at them at exactly the same time.
But we’ve got through them and I really enjoyed the revisit.
The other reason this post, as short and silly as it is, is of some significance, is it’s more or less taken verbatim from my open mic set, back in the days when I fancied myself as a stand-up comedian. Generally, if the night was going well, it would always get a laugh.
Other bits of that set have made it into my posts over the years, but I think this is the only time when I used a bit as an entire post in its own right.
Travel by Wardrobe
First posted on 9th November 2015

When I was young I really enjoyed the Narnia books by CS Lewis.
They captured my imagination and I really wanted to go to the magical land of Narnia.
The best my family could manage was Cornwall, which is magical in it’s own right but it’s not really the same.
We still used to travel by wardrobe though.
It wasn’t a magical wardrobe – we used to attach some roller skates to the bottom, all climb in and my dad would lasso a passing lorry.
It wasn’t the most comfortable way to travel but it was still marginally better than relying on British public transport.
