It wasn’t my intention, when I started doing this Throwback Thursday malarkey, to just sequentially repost all of my old posts in order, but it turns out my second Throwback Thursday post is actually the second post I ever wrote on this blog.

Longtime readers will, of course, know all about my love of Star Wars. If you were with me during the Covid years, you might even recall the madness that overcame me in May 2020, when I wrote about Star Wars for the entire month on the premise of “May the [insert date] be with you.” It was a dark time for us all. You can revisit those posts here if you like. Although why you would do that is anyone’s guess…

The particularly observant among my readers will note that in the post below, I claim that The Empire Strikes Back is my favourite of the Star Wars movies, whereas in that maddest of Mays, I quite clearly state that the original movie (A New Hope, if you will) is my favourite. That’s the kind of inconsistency I’ve been providing here for eleven years, and something I hope to provide for many more years to come.

Incidentally, of the merchandise listed below, I no longer have the electronic lightsaber, but I’m pretty sure I have the rest of it—although the dressing gown is currently hiding in the loft.

The Force is still strong with me. Much to Mrs Proclaims’ chagrin…

I love Star Wars. The Empire Strikes Back is probably my favourite film of all time, but I basically love all of the films—even though I am fully aware that the ‘prequel’ trilogy, particularly The Phantom Menace, is objectively quite bad.

I also love Star Wars merchandise. I had loads of toys when I was a kid, although at some point during my teenage years, my parents saw fit to give them away to my cousin, possibly robbing me of a nice little ‘resale’ nest egg. Truthfully, I probably wouldn’t have sold them and might still secretly play with them today if they hadn’t done that, so maybe they were doing me a favour.

Not that it has stopped me collecting all kinds of crap in my adult life (including some new toys…). Particular favourites are my Jedi Knight dressing gown, a Christmas jumper on which Darth Vader proclaims “Find Your Lack of Cheer Disturbing”, and a plastic electronic lightsaber bought for me by an aunt who should know better. It lights up and you can choose between red or blue, which means you can choose whether to be a Sith or a Jedi (goodie or baddie to the non-discerning).

Other Star Wars merchandise that I own includes an R2D2 eggcup, a Millennium Falcon bottle opener, and a Stormtrooper mug (which looks like a Stormtrooper’s head).

The most recent addition, though sadly already departed, was an awesome chocolate bust of Darth Vader, which my darling wife bought for me instead of an Easter egg. Easter was, of course, over a month ago, but I have only just got around to eating it due to a whole ‘having your hollow milk chocolate decorated figure and eating it’ dilemma.

I have now eaten it and thus sadly no longer possess it. It was delicious though.

  2. Just finished watching the second series of Andor followed by Rogue One. They fit together well to tell a ripping yarn.

    1. I think I’m essentially fo the view that the first two are head and shoulders above everything else. I love them both but alternate between which is my favourite on a whim. But the end of Empire is unbeatable.
