Escape Plan

Exhaustion weighs upon my
Soul, as if on my head is a
Crown of lead
And offers of gold seem
Preposterous
Empty
Promises of gifts I’ll never see
Lead not gold is my continued reward
Although freedom is all I require
Neither lead nor gold is desired

Exhausted and “…freedom is all I require.” Don’t we all yearn for it! Nicely expressed.

Let’s hope you remove that lead and get rejuvenated. Nice one. I enjoyed reading it 🙂

Oh dear, James, I’m not a poet. What do you desire???

Better not to explain. All far more mundane than the poem would suggest…

Well done, as usual. Love the descriptions of extremes between lead and gold. And as you write, all most of us need is the freedom to live, think and write to the matters we find important.
