I'm just trying to get ahead—
Not a head, don't be misled.
I've got a head, but I'm behind,
And I'm finding it hard to find
A spare minute or two
That I need to be able to do
All of those, y'know, things
All the tasks that life brings,

The number of which don't match
The time required to dispatch
The jobs to their required end.
It's really enough to send
Anyone to despair.
I don't know when or where

I'm going to find the hours
Or the requisite powers
To bring myself up from the rear
And find myself somewhere near
The place I want to be
Because I hope you can see,
It's like I've already said:
I'm just trying to get ahead.
