James Proclaims (6)

2016’s The Accountant is not really a film about accountancy but accountancy (of an admittedly implausible variety) does feature in the plot. Fortunately, so too does a lot of mindless violence, which sort of balances things out a bit.

It’s definitely the kind of movie that benefits from a suspension of disbelief and it’s also fairly advisable to switch your brain to its lowest setting before embarking on watching this.

Nonetheless, it’s an entertaining enough action flic and a fairly decent cast all commit fully to the nonsensical plot, so if you like this kind of thing (and I do) then it’s hard to be too critical.

Score for Christmasishness

Christmas sneaks into the reckoning in the most marginal of ways, through a brief (blink and you’ll miss it) flashback, in which the titular character is abandoned by his mother. This scene may have some bearing on the overall narrative but the Christmas decorations in the background are largely irrelevant. They are definitely there though, so The Accountant makes the cut.
