2023’s ‘straight-to-Netflix’ comedy Family Switch is objectively quite a bad film. Taking the parent-child body swapping trope and extending it to a whole family is not inherently adding anything to an already exhausted formula. There are some moments which are quite fun and the whole thing is incredibly good-natured so to hate this film would be like kicking a puppy.

But there is nothing here that hasn’t already been done before and, in the main, done better.

Score for Christmasishness

There is absolutely no reason for this movie to be set at Christmas and there are several plot points that specifically don’t work because of the time of year. But internal logic is not really a strong point of this movie and frankly the Christmas setting is the only reason that anyone might watch this more than once. It shouldn’t be a Christmas movie, but Christmas has been crowbarred into this and, much like an artificial Christmas tree, in some households this might get an airing for a few consecutive Christmases before being discarded forever.
