If at all possible, I do like to try and get at least one film into my advent calendar that was released in the year of said calendar. In this case that year is 2025, and the film is Havoc, which was released in April.
Havoc is not going to score too many points for originality. It is as ‘by the numbers’ as action flics get. The running time consists mainly of a series of extended and graphically violent shoot-em ups, interspersed with some fairly predictable plot twists.
But it is all very stylishly choregraphed. And the cast includes Tom Hardy, Timothy Olyphant and Forest Whitaker, who all elevate this to something more than it probably should be.
I would definitely watch this again.
Score for Christmasishness

Despite its April release, this is definitely set during the season, and very explicitly so. There is even a Christmas shopping scene, which while not entirely necessary to the plot, does contribute to the otherwise fairly light character development of Hardy’s protagonist. It doesn’t need to be set at Christmas, but it ticks all the same festive boxes as the movie which started me down this annual path. It’s not as good as Die Hard but it’s almost as Christmas(ish).
