It’s Just Another Thursday Here

It didn’t really occur to me when I started this blog that I would have any readers outside of my existing friends and family, and I imagined that even they would probably only give it a cursory glance from time to time, and then only out of a weary sense of loyalty.

So even though my current following is modest compared to some of the blogging behemoths out there, I am pretty ecstatic that I receive regular attention from fellow bloggers from all over the world.

And many of my regular readers are from the USA. And apparently it’s a special day across the Atlantic today.

For according to my sources, today is Thanksgiving Day.

I’m not celebrating it.

I almost entitled this post “Why I won’t be celebrating Thanksgiving this year’ because that’s exactly the kind of inflammatory ‘click-bait’ that would attract loads of visitors to my blog.

But  it would have been a cynical move. The only reason I’m not celebrating Thanksgiving is because I’m British and we don’t have it over here.

I don’t even really know what it is.

I mean I sort of do know, because I watch lots of American films and TV shows and often Thanksgiving will happen in them and it jars for a moment because I don’t fully understand the cultural reference. But then I rationalise it by equating it to something that looks a bit like Christmas and I pretend that it is just Christmas and then I’m ok. Like in the Steve Martin/John Candy comedy classic ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles’. I just pretend that Steve Martin is desperate to get home to his family for Christmas rather than Thanksgiving and the whole film makes perfect sense.

Nonetheless, if you are celebrating Thanksgiving today then I hope you’re having a nice time. I salute you for having a holiday in November, because if a month ever needed a redeeming feature then it’s November.

Plus you still get to have Christmas too.

Well played America.

I had to work today. My lunch was two ham rolls and a packet of crisps. I’m not complaining but it’s hardly a festive feast is it?

I’d have rather had a slice of pumpkin pie.

Or would I?

I’ve never actually tasted it.

I am curious about pumpkin pie.

I wonder if I’d like it.
